How to book Lessons & Driving Tests
We open our diary for 10 days at a time. This means you can book lessons up to 10 days in advance. Bookings are made on the TotalDrive App which you will be given free access to. Driving Tests (once agreed) will be added to the diary up to 24 weeks in advance. Pupils cannot add Driving Tests to the diary. Once you have booked a driving test through the DVSA, you must contact us and provide us with the location of the test centre, the date and time of the test and the application reference. We will then enter the details into the diary and onto your lesson schedule. We only accept Driving test bookings at Chingford – Loughton – Wanstead. Requests for other driving test centres must be discussed and agreed in advance.
Driving lesson duration is 1 hour minimum. Lessons can be booked up to a maximum of 5 hours in one day.
Driving test duration is set at 2 hours. A lesson prior to the test and the test duration, debrief and drop off. This is charged at a flat rate of £150. This is a hire agreement for the use of a dual control equipped vehicle including fully comprehensive insurance with no excess which covers the pupil, not under instruction for the purpose of a driving test and insures the DVSA examiner.
If the DVSA cancel a driving test at short notice (less than 3 days) compensation can be claimed directly from them. In this event, the flat rate will no longer be applied and will be amended to the equivalent of a 2 hour lesson which matches the amount that can be claimed from the DVSA. Any lessons booked within 48 hours of the cancellation are still subject to Lernin Driving Schools cancellation policy. This includes the lesson that precedes the driving test. Please read the DVSA CANCELLATION POLICY by clicking here
How to Pay for our services
Pupils are able to prepay for driving lessons and hold time credit in their account which shows as time in the app
We accept cash, bank transfers and credit card payments. Our preferred method is by bank transfer. Details will be provided to onboarded clients. If you wish to pay by debit card or credit card, we charge 1.69% of the transaction. For each 1 hour lesson this equates to 60pence. Instead of using a debit card which attracts the same 1.69% charge, a bank transfer is free. Chip & Pin or contactless transactions are handled by a third party – SumUp.
The TotalDrive app has a built in payment method which can be used. It attracts a handling and service charge outside the control of Lernin Driving School
We will issue you with a digital receipt for each payment.

Lernin Driving School do not currently operate a physical gift voucher scheme. Hourly credits can be purchased and applied to a pupils account by contacting us directly by email

Sexual Harassment or Inappropriate Behaviour
We have a duty of care to all of our team and pupils to ensure they are able to work and learn in a safe, comfortable environment, free from inappropriate behaviour including harassment, or any verbal or physical misconduct.
Our commitment to providing a safe environment, particularly in relation to pupils taking lessons with our team is underpinned by our rigidly enforced processes as follows:
- All of our instructors are subject to a police DBS check to ensure they have no criminal convictions before they are able to become a Lernin Driving School instructor.
- All instructors are required to declare to Lernin Driving School immediately any new or pending criminal or driving convictions. Failure to do so could result in immediate termination of their agreement with Lernin Driving School.
- All instructors are required to declare to Lernin Driving School immediately if they become aware that they are the subject of any allegations which could be interpreted as sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviour. This includes any allegations made against the instructor when not on driving lesson duties. Failure to do so could result in the immediate termination of their agreement with Lernin Driving School.
- The complainant should be advised that Lernin Driving School will investigate their complaint and request the provision of any supporting evidence that substantiates their allegations. Lernin Driving School, dependent on the evidence received, may be able to take direct action at this point in time.
- In all eventualities, the complainant should be advised to report the matter to the DVSA and the police. Lernin Driving School will cooperate with the DVSA and the Police in their investigation.
- Should the complaint be upheld by the Police or the DVSA, the instructor agreement may be terminated with immediate effect, and the outcome shared with the Police or the DVSA as appropriate.
- Where a complaint is upheld, the relevant instructor will be required to disclose to Lernin Driving School the names and contact details of all of their current pupils in order that they can be contacted by Lernin Driving School to make them aware that the instructor no longer represents or is affiliated with Lernin Driving School.
Refunds
Refunds will be issued if you have made a payment for driving lessons with Lernin Driving School and no longer wish to continue or if your instructor is unable to continue teaching you and there are outstanding lessons that you have paid for.
Refunds will be made within 28 days from cancellation. If you have received a discounted rate, any refunds will be calculated at the full rate for lessons already completed
Driving Tests
The DVSA are responsible for the booking and confirmation of driving tests. Driving tests can be booked up to 24 weeks in advance and retests after 10 days following an unsuccessful test. Lernin Driving School do not book tests for pupils and offer no facility to do so. It is the responsibility of the pupil to book a test through the DVSA directly. We do not endorse the use of third party apps that charge a premium for their use.
Lernin Driving School reserve the absolute right to deny a pupil the use of a Lernin Driving School vehicle and instructor if it is deemed that a pupil is not test ready. A pupils training record will reflect the standard that a pupil is at and discussion will have taken place between instructor and pupil about when to book a test.
It is advisable to only book a test when an instructor informs the pupil that they are either test ready or will be within a short period of time.
When a pupil books a test it is their responsibility to inform Lernin Driving School so that the test can be added to the diary. Pupils cannot add a test to the diary. Any attempt to do so will be deleted. Pupils will be provided with a redacted diary to show future availability in order to book a test slot of 2 hours minimum.
Driving tests differ from driving lessons. A pupil is not under instruction on a driving test even if accompanied by their instructor. A DVSA examiner occupies the front passenger seat and provides no driving instruction.
Use of a Lernin Driving School vehicle for a driving test is charged at a flat rate (see current rates on website).
