Lernin Driving School will no longer book new practical driving tests on behalf of pupils.

For pupils already under instruction where Lernin Driving School has agreed to book or manage a test before 1 May 2026, that arrangement will continue only in relation to those existing agreed bookings and under the previous Terms & Conditions in force at the time of booking.

From 1 May 2026, pupils are solely responsible for booking and managing their own practical driving tests.

Booking a test does not guarantee the use of the school vehicle or instructor support for that test. This is subject to your instructor’s professional assessment of your readiness. You must pass a mock test prior to your DVSA practical test.

Pupils must book only in accordance with the published Test Calendar and Booking Rules.

The instructor does not provide booking approval on DVSA test release mornings and is not available to respond to requests for permission before a pupil books a test.

Once a pupil has booked a test in accordance with the published rules, the pupil must notify the instructor immediately by WhatsApp so that the booking can be allocated correctly.

If a pupil books a test outside the published rules, the instructor may be unavailable, use of the school vehicle may be refused, and test support may be withdrawn.

If a pupil has been instructed that they may book only on specified days, times or centres, that instruction must be followed. Any booking made outside those instructions may not be supported.

Test Readiness

If you are not test-ready, your instructor may:
(a) Decline use of the vehicle for the booked test, or
(b) With your agreement, transfer the test to a later date to allow additional preparation.

If you do not agree to a transfer, you may still attend the test on the original date, but without use of the school vehicle or instructor support.

Test Cancellations & Refunds

Where Lernin Driving School booked a test on your behalf before 1 May 2026, and you choose to cancel your test outright, the DVSA refund will be issued to Lernin Driving School as the original booking party.

Lernin will refund you the test fee paid, minus a £10 administration charge, within 28 days of the DVSA refund being received.

If you request Lernin to transfer, amend, or rebook a test date that was originally secured by Lernin before 1 May 2026, a £10 administration fee will apply per change.

If Lernin initially secured the test under the Driving Test Booking Assistance Service before 1 May 2026, the £20 securing fee remains payable regardless of any later cancellation or transfer.

For tests booked directly by the pupil from 1 May 2026 onwards, all cancellations, amendments, transfers and refunds are the pupil’s responsibility and must be handled directly with DVSA.

No refunds are available if the DVSA refuse to issue a refund (e.g. cancellations within 10 working days).

Test Day Use of Vehicle

Use of the school vehicle for a driving test is charged at £150. This includes a pre-test warm-up, insurance, and instructor attendance at the test centre.

This fee is separate from the DVSA test fee.

Instructors reserve the right to refuse use of the vehicle for a test if the pupil is not deemed safe or test-ready.

DVSA Cancellations

If DVSA cancels a test with less than 10 working days’ notice, they may issue a refund.

In this case, the £150 test day fee will be converted to a 2-hour lesson rate.

Other scheduled lessons remain subject to the standard cancellation policy.

  • This charge covers the instructor’s time spent actively monitoring the DVSA booking system — including early-morning checks and repeated attempts to secure suitable cancellations — which often takes place outside normal working hours.
